Bangkok Haunts BookPeople
Best-selling author John Burdett will be at BookPeople tomorrow night to present the third installment in his "Bangkok Series," Bangkok Nights. When detective Sonchai Jitpleecheep receives a snuff film featuring a woman he was once obsessed with, he embarks on an investigation that takes him beyond the realm of the living, not your same old snuff film shenanigans.
It's like Law and Order, but in book form, set in Thailand, and instead of Sam Waterston you have an erotic ghost story. On second thought, it's like Law and Order only by virtue of being highly-addictive crime drama. Apologies for including the words "Sam" and "Waterston" and "erotic" in the same sentence. If you're into thrillers set in exotic locales, then this one is a welcome addition to your summer reading list. In fact, if you wanted a little sample the folks at Knopf have an excerpt from the book's first chapter here.
Be sure to catch John Burdett when he reads from and signs copies of Bangkok Haunts tomorrow night at BookPeople.
