Austinist Show Preview: Emo's 15th Anniversary -Saturday Night

emos.gifEmo’s has built a reputation as one of the city’s most identifiable and prolific venues over the last decade or so. In fact, it has been fifteen years since the infamous live music spot opened its doors. This weekend, the club kicks off a celebration with events spanning eight hot and sweaty summer evenings. In between opening night festivities featuring The Riverboat Gamblers and 2nd weekend reunions like Glorium comes a Saturday night line-up fit to match any of the historical, magical nights at Emo’s over the years.

Local favorites Shearwater headline the Outside Stage fresh on the heels of the release of the “revived and expanded edition” of Palo Santo. Originally issued last year, the album confirmed our confidence in the band’s obvious beauty, and their live shows are usually an intimate yet powerful experience. Canadian outfit Great Lake Swimmers complement with country-folk ambiance that charms and saddens alike. Eleni Mandell, who recently wowed the masses with a live performance for KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic, and The Minus Story open.

hb.jpgMetal mayhem dominates the Inside Stage with the all-out assault of local rock n’ roll torch-bearers Dixie Witch and Jason McMaster’s Broken Teeth. Seattle’s all-female tribute to AC/DC, Hell’s Belles headline with a catalogue of classics, no doubt. Not to be forgotten, the Lounge features jittery pop-punk from Thunderbirds Are Now!. The band released their third record Make History last year on Frenchkiss Records but already has plans to work on new material as soon as the current tours wraps up later this month. Warped Tour alumni The Junior Varsity and WT hopefuls Streets To Nowhere open.
