White Denim CD Release @ Mohawk

You’ve got to possess a certain amount of bravado or at least a total lack of giving a shit about current trends to bust out the white denim and strut down the street, or Mohawk Friday night. And that’s exactly how the band must feel about their music, taking long strides with their heads held high. Because White Denim has created something that is uniquely alarming in all its post-whatever, garage-ish experimentation.

My comrades Paige Maguire and Joshua Huck have concocted what I think is the best description of their music. “The subtle goofiness of a non-self-referencing Jon Spencer Blues Explosion meets The Creation meets psychedelic gospel hootenanny on PCP. Add a dash of mid-to-late era King Crimson, a heaping tablespoon of the raunchiest Kinks and Yardbirds tracks (Dave Davies on vocals, ladies and gents), and puree until completely fucking insane, periodically checking to make sure that the blender doesn't burst into flames.”

And, there you go.

There is a sort of controlled lawlessness to White Denim’s songs that can be found in their purposeful licks. And, the same confidence that may cause one to don white denim, sparks a live show that’s all about hand claps, kickin’ out your own freestyle dance moves, general geeky merriment.

Teaming up with White Denim is the experimental, disembodied rock of Horse+Donkey, folk rockers Brazos, and John Wesley Coleman. Come rock out with us:
