Fashion Bits (Bigger Bits)

  • Chloe.jpgPeyton’s Place is celebrating its grand opening tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. There will be complimentary drinks, in-store makeovers (courtesy of Sage Salon), and a trunk show by jewelry designer Joani White. Peyton’s Place is on 215 Lavaca.

  • Re- is going out of business! Voted Best Recycled Goods by Austin Chronicle, this little South Austin vintage store is calling it quits after over two years. Owner Chris Walker said he and his wife want to spend more time with their daughter, his “little Jedi.” Everything is reduced by 30 percent this week, 40 percent next week. The shop’s final day is Sunday the 24th.

  • Students are attempting to create “the ultimate car accessory” from an ordinary litterbag – and a couple of fashion celebrities are judging the prototypes. Huh? Yep, Don’t Mess with Texas and UT’s The McCombs School of Business Future Executive Academy recruited Texas natives Chloe Dao, winner of Project Runway’s second season, and designer Todd Oldham, of Bravo’s newer show Top Design. Chloe’s actually going to be on campus tomorrow but Todd’s judging from his (fun, funky, fabulous) New York office.
A press release by EnviroMedia said the designers are the first to evaluate the results of Project Litterbag (really, they could’ve picked a less obvious name), but it’s up to Texans to pick the best container during the Don’t Mess with Texas “Rock the Bag” summer road tour.

  • Stitch is set for November 10th at the Austin Music Hall. The expansion of the venue should hold 1000 more people for this fashion show/bazaar’s 5th anniversary. This is the first year Stitch is giving away an Indie Business Grant for $1000 (on top of raffle proceeds). Stitch is taking applications for the craft bazaar and fashion show online until August 15th. If you want to sponsor the event, go here. Also, Stitch has a new blog.

  • Lastly, Moxie and the Compound (909 West Mary, Suite B) started hosting regular trunk shows. All Dressed Up and Shy and Naughty Secretary Club are showing their wares from 6 – 8 p.m. tonight. The peeps behind Odom/Turner and Studiomomentum are going to be the there from 5 to 10 p.m. next Thursday.
