We're sure you already know this because, after all, what else could you have possibly been doing on Sunday night other than watching the 2007 Tony Awards broadcast live on CBS? It's not like there was anything else on TV.
Nevertheless, in case you missed it, former Austinite Julie White scored a Best Actress Tony for playing a lesbian Hollywood agent in Douglas Carter Beane's The Little Dog Laughed. White was nominated alongside the likes of Angela Lansbury and Vanessa Redgrave. She also delivered one of the most engaging acceptance speeches of the evening.
According to News 8 Austin, White proudly reveals her Texas roots to anyone who asks, "telling papers she went to Doss Elementary, Murchison Junior High School and, later, Anderson High School." Now there's bragging rights! She proceeded to SWTSU, finally leaving Texas behind to attend Fordham University in NYC. From there it was, quite literally, a short walk to Broadway.
It's always exciting when an (almost) hometown girl does good. Who's next? We'd name names but we don't want to embarrass anyone. Still, mark your calendar for next year's Tony Awards. You don't want to miss something like this again, do you?

I had to IMDB her to find out why she looked so familiar . . . she used to be on "Grace Under Fire". Yay for Austinites winning awards!
