Look, I work for animal control and we do our best. I will admit that we usually don't care if animals are neglected though. We see it all the time. If you haven't taken a whip or a knife to your animal, then we probably won't come. Not only is it more economical, it's easier for us. I mean, who comes to Austin to work hard? Not me. I work to live man.

Timely news: the Austin city council just voted to ban the chaining and tethering of unattended dogs. The law will go into effect in October. Good luck getting the animal cruelty division of Animal Control to actually DO anything if you continue to see dogs tethered. They don't even fine people who consistently neglect their animals.

Having lived in Colorado Springs for 5 years, I feel compelled to stand up against Colorado Springs being ranked number 1 for anything. Last year Money Magazine ranked it the number 1 place to live and I was completely baffled. Everyone should recognize that Colorado Springs sucks. Certaintly everyone who lives there admits it openly (besides the evangelicals, who remain closeted). It might be number 1 for dogs because there are lots of mountains and open space to run around in, leashless. But the dogs that lived next door to me just roamed the backyard and ate each others' poop.
