Part of the trouble with being labeled an “experimental” band is that no one quite knows what to expect. Or, maybe that’s the fun of it. Either way, the all-girl Brit-rock machine that is Electrelane, which sometimes draws comparisons to Stereolab, is sure to bring to The Parish a welcomed departure from the stale sounds of the Libertines-esque pop groups who tend to make their way across the pond.
Electrelane is touring in support of their fourth full-length, No Shouts No Calls, Which features snappy drums, quiet guitar strums and twinkles, and more natural, under-produced vocal harmonies. They even throw in the occasional banjo, violin and Farfisa. It’s the near-perfect addition to a catalog that thumbs it’s nose at convention. With a discography like theirs, the set is likely to bounce around between foreign languages, organ-heavy instrumentals, gorgeous choruses and all points in between. Opening is Tender Forever, aka Melanie Valera, and her Franco-American emotional, acoustic pop.

I saw Electrelane open for Aracade Fire in Portland last weekend. "quiet guitar strums and twinkles" is the last phrase that comes to mind. How about "loud screeching guitars rock"? I have their album so I can understand the mistake but if they do a similar live show to what they did 10 days ago, bring two sets of ear plugs.
