Along a similar vein as last month's Mohawk Residency Series, the good folks at Do512 and Direct Events have teamed up to host a bi-weekly artist spotlight and competition. Dubbed Locals @ La Zona, the three-round showcase series features a trio of Austin indie bands competing each night to see who can bring out the most supporters. The winners from each evening will move on to Round 2, where they'll compete to win an opening slot for a national touring act at the Backyard.
The first of the Locals series took place on May 16th; A Pocketful of Deng managing to beat out The Laughing and Zookeeper. Two more shows remain:
May 30
Jets Under Fire, The Drawing Board, AM Syndicate
June 7
Tammany Hall Machine, Visitors, Rory and the Artificial Heart
The cover fee at the door is $5, but you can get in for free by registering and voting at Do512 (links above).

I'm going to this show. And I'll be there to support The Drawing Board. If you like power pop bands, you might like TDB :-)!
I forgot to add that June 7th is also worth going to if only just to see Tammany Hall Machine. A pop band that knows how to rock :-) !
Yeah, The Drawing Board are great - love them!
