We're not sure if the Willowz are mourning or celebrating the death of rock, but we do know, they sound sort of like a souped up revival of the soundtrack to That '70s Show, which is probably for the best, as otherwise, their hairstyles would be gross misrepresentation, and they'd probably be way less fun to listen to.
Think of the sound as the less synthetic side of glam rock – more tooled leather than sequins, and keep the bell bottoms all-American and synthetic free (ok, fine, maybe a 50/50 blend, but who's counting?) – or maybe a slightly less angsty version of Detroit rock. The songs on the band's latest release, Chautaqua (out this March from Dim Mak) are jam packed with layers, far away from the auditory minimalism that's been such the rage lately.
The Anaheim, CA-based quartet will be tearing things up tonight at Emo's Lounge, along with a slew of locals: Cartright, purveyors of fine postmodern drinking songs, Cavedweller, purveyors of incredibly mellow psychedelic folk, and Rossi Mission, purveyors of indie pop for driving around abandoned highways to. We're really in love with the notion of “purveying” things lately, but, seriously, these folks are all artists, and they're going to be part of a diverse lineup that's sure to scratch whatever music itch you're feeling.
Congrats, Andy!
