Attention, super-involved citizens! Yesterday, the City of Austin announced that all of us will have an opportunity to meet the five finalist candidates for the office of Chief of Police for the Austin Police Department next month. Throughout June, three "community forums" will be held at the Palmer Events Center, and these events will be completely open to the general public. According to the City, "feedback from these sessions will be utilized in making a final recommendation for the position."
Austinist has at least one recommendation we'd like to make right off the bat: The next Police Chief, whoever it may be, should re-outfit the entire department with those awesome, tight-fitting cop outfits made famous in the late 70s TV show "CHIPs." Seriously, how amazing were those? We think such policy is sound and would result in a major increase in officer recruiting. After all, who doesn't want to look like a complete disco badass while enforcing the rule of law?
Regardless of your opinions on internal APD policy, or who the next Chief should be, here's your chance to actually meet the candidates and let your voice be heard. The community forum schedule will be as follows:
Monday, June 11, 6pm @ Palmer Events Center
Tuesday, June 12, 8:30am @ Palmer Events Center
Tuesday, June 12, 12 noon @ Palmer Events Center
