Dallas Cowboys' Fancy New Stadium to Host Super Bowl XLV

Earlier today, the NFL selected the Dallas Cowboys' new $1 billion mega-stadium, one of the most expensive sports complexes ever conceived, as the site of Super Bowl XLV in 2011. This will make it the third time that Texas has hosted a Super Bowl.

The future stadium, located in Arlington, will be able to seat anywhere from 80,000 to 100,000 spectators, depending on event requirements. Taking up a whopping 2.3 million square feet of space, the building will feature a retractable roof made up of two 63,000 square foot panels and capable of opening or closing in 12 minutes. The official website boasts that the stadium, with the roof closed, could hold "the entire Statue of Liberty and its base." Construction on what's been nicknamed "Jerry's World"—after Cowboys owner Jerry Jones—is currently underway, and scheduled for completion sometime before the 2009 NFL season.
