I barely blink, and once again, the weekend is upon us. And of course, a bit unexpectedly, I've been asked to sit in for Jeff McCord on Left of the Dial this evening on KUT, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Remember to stick around afterward for the amazing Chris Hillen, once again graciously sitting in for me during the late night shift. Sorry to keep shifting round like this, peeps. It's only going to get crazier so please bear with me!
I'll do my best to cram tons o' musical goodies in the three hours I have during LOTD, which is going to be a challenge. Lots of great stuff going down this weekend that reminds me of some great tunes I need to play.
You into happy hour? Sure, we all are! Why not spice it up with a little RAWK, while you're at it? That's just the thing to do with Kissinger as they rock happy hour at the Beauty Bar on E. 7th, from 6 to 9 p.m. Great music from those guys. Oh, when you get there, ask frontman Chopper about my saying, "Red lights are optional." He just might recall my old driving habits. "What, was it red? Really? Didn't notice. Now you kids shut up back there and let me drive."
When you're done with happy hour at the Beauty Bar, there's a plethora (think The Three Amigos when I use that word) of gigs to choose from tonight. The Jungle Rockers are having their EP release bash at the Parish, with Two Hoots and A Holler on the bill, and music in between provided by the always marvelous Sock Hop DJs. Rockin' and rollin' and basically going nuts, as a party should be...
Speaking of insanity...the Scoot Inn on E. 4th St. is the scene for a show by the Riverboat Gamblers. More fantastic RAWK! And, as if there weren't enough rock to go around, you can get another heaping dose at Emo's inside stage this evening at the Red Fang show, complete with local peeps LIONS, the Rockland Eagles, and Human Being Lawnmower.
Also making tonight most groovy are The Ugly Beats at the Mohawk, with Shapes Have Fangs and Black Panda on the bill. It's all happening tonight, kids. Decisions, decisions...
Would you mind catching something Saturday afternoon? Oh, it won't be that tough; just drink plenty of water to rehydrate and head on out to the Sunset Valley Farmer's Market Sustainable Shoppers Ball, where Matt Oliver of Sound Team will perform. Plus, lots to see and do and shop for. It's happening at the Toney Burger Center at 3200 Jones Road. Check the Sustainable Shoppers Ball website for details.
Then, following your disco nap in preparation for other mad adventures in the night, there'll be plenty more shows to catch Saturday evening. My Education, Antarctica Starts Here, and Mansion will play at the Beauty Bar; Li'l Cap'n Travis headlines a gig at Hole In the Wall that includes Tiny Adventures and Suzanna Choffel; I also got word that Rescue Mission was just added to the bill at a show at Emo's Lounge with Cassette.
I also need to throw in a couple of show announcements for the following week, if I may: Just some reminders that The Boxing Lesson headlines Tuesday at Emo's, with Tussle, Yacht and Best Fwends on the bill; Wednesday night, it's Haunting Oboe Music and Prom Night at Emo's Lounge, so check it out.
Right now, it's time to take more allergy medicine. I don't want to sound too sinusy and stuffed up on LOTD this evening. Ah, Austin! Remember I'm on nice and early again, 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., followed by mega DJ Chris Hillen for the late night gig. You know where: KUT 90.5 on the FM. And, in the words of our pal RoboCop, thank you for your cooperation.
