Preview: Priestbird, Pit Er Pat at Emo's Lounge

They went from being called Tarantula A.D. (instrumental prog-rock) to Priestbird, a name "in reference to a character in one of their songs that looks after the bird spirits on the afterlife" (their label, Kemado Records, says). Okay, sure. I mean, after seeing the press photos, we get it: other-worldly. (And didn't they tour with CocoRosie last year? And aren't they pals with Devendra Banhart? Ah, it's all making sense).

So otherworldly, in fact, that we think they're actually a group of aliens/chameleons who can play any instrument well and play eighteen different genres of music on one album (or in one show). These guys run the gamut -- all the way from a tinkling piano to mesmerizing Gregorian chant-style singing to Zeppelin or Sabbath to folk guitar strumming. Seriously. So tonight, if you're looking for the musical variety of a Golden Corral buffet, head to Emo's Lounge to see them with Pit Er Pat. While you're at it, why not whet your palette with local band When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth, opening first.

We'd love to send you:

Congratulations, winners!
