In one of the most anticipated shows of the year, two of this generation's most beloved singer-songwriters and one young up-and-comer are gonna be strumming the night away this evening at Emo's. Ben Gibbard, the bespectacled teddy bear that fronts Death Cab for Cutie has teamed up with David Bazan (aka Pedro the Lion, going by his own name) and mussy-haired crooner Johnathan Rice (Jenny Lewis' beau, lucky stiff...)
There's a reason this show is sold out. Not only is the combination of these three musicians a rare, bare-bones snapshot into the past, present, and future of our current musical milieu, they're playing a venue where the intimacy of their performances can be readily appreciated. With the combination of Gibbard's solipsistic hyper-enunciation, Bazan's jaded tirades, and Rice's world-weary indie-folk tonight's show will more than likely be an unrelentingly reflective one. Even with the low-key subject matter, there's no doubt that it will be a memorable and affecting event, with this solid roster of renowned songwriters.
Now stop trolling Craigslist for extra tickets and let us send you for free. Fill in the blanks, please.
Congratulations, Steven!

what i just plain adore about ben gibbard is that his voice has a true physicality...i don't quite know how to explain it. he couldn't sound anything other than young and earnest if he tried. but i'm really curious how it will mature over the years.
also: stanks, josh. now i know what solipsistic is. always good to add some ammo to the word arsenal!
