Austinist Giveaway: Final SPARK Lecture, Anne Lamott at The Paramount Theatre
The final guest speaker in KLRU's "Spark" Engaging Speaker Series is novelist Anne Lamott, whose brutally honest but altogether hilarious stories are rooted in heavy and sometimes dark themes, like alcoholism, faith, and Republicanism.
"The very first thing I tell my new students on the first day of a workshop is that good writing is about telling the truth," explains Lamott in Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life. "We are a species that needs and wants to understand who we are. Sheep lice do not seem to share this longing, which is one reason they write so very little. But we do."
A prolific author and essayist with over ten published works and a widely-read online column on Salon, Lamott recently released Grace (Eventually), her third collection of ruminations on religion that the San Francisco Chronicle remarked as being "imbued with passion, heart and wit."
Anne Lamott will speak at the Paramount Theatre tomorrow evening at 7:30pm. Enter below for your chance to score a pair of really good seats to the final Spark lecture of 2007:
