Tormented calligraphers, masters of scrimshaw, weavers of lint, please read closely: the Austin Museum of Art is now accepting submissions for New Art in Austin, a triennial showcase slated for 2008. The only eligibility requirements are:
1) that you are an artist who lives within 50 miles of the Capitol building and;
2) that you have never had a solo show in a major mainstream exhibition venue in Austin.
(Plus, that you are a visionary of the first order.)
Now ready your pens for more details!
Actually, scrap that, because you can enter your masterpieces for consideration online, only. Five digital images are needed, and it's preferable that the work you're uploading has never before been seen by the public. Or even your household pet.
The submission deadline is July 16, 2007, and an expert curatorial team will be judging the entries. Its members are: Diane Barber, Director/Curator, Diverse Works, Houston; Eva Buttacavoli, Director of Exhibitions and Education, Austin Museum of Art; Bill FitzGibbons, Director, Blue Star, San Antonio; Elizabeth Hunt Blanc, Director, McKinney Avenue Contemporary, Dallas; and Dennis Kois, Director, Grace Museum, Abilene.
More information is available at Callforentry.org.
So get crafty, folks. Because who knows? The next Piss Christ may be in the (local) making.
