Austinist Giveaway: Trash Anthems tonight and tomorrow!
In case you haven't heard, local playwright Dan Dietz will be leaving Austin (boo for us!) to take on a professorship at Florida State University (yay for him!). We're very sad to see him go. The author of such lauded works at Dirigible, Blind Horses, Tilt Angel, and Americamisfit, Dan Dietz is a brilliant rising star in the theatre world.
The women of Shrewd Productions are gifting us with one final production of Dietz's work, Trash Anthems, before the author up and leaves us. Trash Anthems is a set of six short works, each with its own interesting production history. Dietz says they are "'trash anthems' in the sense that they're my songs to beloved losers from across time and social strata.... The woman whose methamphetamine addiction has forced her to take a job involving indecent exposure. The men who drop an atomic bomb on their friends in the name of patriotism. The woman who unloads a shotgun into her boyfriend in the name of love..... And Superman. These are just some of the characters collected into this single evening of short plays. They're all down on their luck. They're all facing catastrophe. And I think that's why their stories appeal to me. Oh yeah: and they're funny."
As you've no doubt surmised, we're giving away free tickets -- two pair per night -- for this weekend's showings of Trash Anthems. So put down the loserphone and fill out these forms lickety split to win yerself some theatre tickets.
