The Movable Feast Wants to Blow Some Minds

Looking for something interesting to do this weekend? It's Friday, after all, and there has to be something unconventional you can participate in, or at least bear witness to. Yeah, there's a few shows you could attend, or perhaps you could just say "screw it" and while the hours away at a bar. Deep down, though, you want to stretch out and do something different. As part of the Fuse Box Festival, local performance group The Movable Feast Collective is assembling just such an event, provided that you have the curiosity and adventuresome spirit to motivate you to attend.

Billed as "Part experimental theater, part artistic procession, and part psychological journey," The Movable Feast is creating a multimedia, multi-site 24-hour piece for an audience of five complete strangers, performed by their group of performers, actors, musicians, filmmakers, costumers, sound artists, and poets. Others, meaning you, are encouraged to attend the process at strategic locations, beginning at the Blue Theater at noon, tomorrow. If you come, try to bring a "vintage suitcase" and some "traveling clothes".

The five audience members that are the focus of the work have been extensively interviewed and vetted specifically for the performance, the details of which they have no idea, but will include text, images, and form based on their own lives. This is not the first time that TMF has embarked on such an elaborate journey. Founded in 2001 by Abraham Burickson in San Francisco under the name of Odyssey Works, other pieces started small, as 12-24 hour multimedia excursions for one or two people. He has not only expanded his vision, but relocated it to Austin where it begins tomorrow. Former participants describe their involvement in these pieces as life-changing and transformative. At certain points in the journey, they have found themselves in rowboats crossing the river Styx, deep in the hull of a World War II battleship, and serving as the lone juror in their own trial.

Become an extra in someone else's life? Seems like a sufficiently compelling way to spend part of your weekend. Come out!
