Latest On The Alamo Drafthouse

Reported just days ago on the their own blog, The Alamo Drafthouse revealed two bits of interest concerning their future transition down the street to take over the famous, and schizophrenic, Ritz on 6th. It's looking like the final day at The Original Alamo on 4th & Colorado will be Wednesday, June 27th, 2007.

From the blog, "We'll have three shows, something special for 3 different crowds that we serve at the Alamo. We will announce the final month's lineup in early May and tickets for the final night will go on sale at noon on May 14. For the last show, a very special Weird Wednesday event, your ticket will include a ratcheting wrench. Please take your chair with you as you leave."

We don't know for sure if that last part is true, but if it is, we're going for those couches at the top row.

And what's to happen to the old building after the move? Rest assured, no high-rises going up here just yet.

Page Six reports that Michael Ault, owner of nightclub empire Pangaea (currently with locations in NYC, Marbella London and Miami), has "taken a long lease on the Alamo Draft House, a big movie theatre featured in the opening scene of Quentin Tarantino's 'Death Proof.'"

If that's true about the chair, that's the coolest thing ever. It's probably not, but the Alamo's done enough batshit insane things before to make it at least somewhat plausible.

At any rate, I'm going to line up in front of the box office hours beforehand if I have to. There is no, no way I am missing that show.

I have no doubt that the chair thing is true. Years ago when the Drafthouse replaced their older style movie chairs with the ones they have now they sold off their old ones. I have my on my patio right now, quite comfortable.

It'll be nice to have a set.

From what I've seen done to those couches, those are probably the last things you want to take.

Hell yeah it's true. I just need to find a source for cheap wrenches... Only 102 people can get the "take your chair with you" tickets because the chairs share a communal leg.

That's an awesome idea Tim!! You and your wife are my choice for #1 business owners in town. Sad to see the old place go, but I am really excited about the new one. Keep up the good work and thanks for all the popcorn!

But Tim, what of the couches on the top row?

Tim, I would highly suggest Harbor Freight. They have tons of cheap tools. Perhaps Breed would sponsor it! :-)

You can take home the couch too, but... buyer beware....

How are you going to regulate that someone who pays for a wrench seat actually gets to sit in a seat that is scheduled for removal?

If I bought a wrench seat and someone who bought nonwrench seat sits in a seat instead of the couch (for example), I'd be pretty annoyed.

I might even have to drink an extra bucket of beer to calm myself.
