Point well taken Chrisman. I'm the same way whenever a cover charge is involved (there's billions of other free venues with bands in this town so I usually choose to use my dosh for slosh), which is why I included all the myspace links. If your computer has speakers, they will make the bands come alive on the myspace (along with a crapload of obnoxious noise from emoti-comments and whatnot).

If I shy away from the myspace, I'm forced to employ the the standard Pitchforkish, dunno-blog description for any local music I'm yet to be super-super-super intimate with:

"If Joy Division and Kraftwerk were mob-raped by My Bloody Valentine while Grandaddy took a dump on an early Echo and The Bunnymen rhythm track. You know, so the kids can beat off to it."

And then no one wins.

I know musicians sometimes like to shy away from categorization of their music, but I'd like some more indications of the genre. I like the comparison to other bands, but if we don't know that other band, we don't know what kind of music this is. Now we'll go out and listen to new music, but realizing that we have lots of choices, I don't think I'll be going to this unless I can know that. Perhaps I am a musical snob, but...my cents, 2 or thereabouts.

once again i read a seemingly innocuous post on austinist and, upon not comprehending any of it and thinking i'm still drunk from last night, i realize it's a truecraig post and suddenly everything's ok.
