Season 3 of Downtown Starts Tomorrow

dwntwnalley.jpgIf you aren't going to the launch party tonight, you can watch the first episode of Downtown's third season tomorrow night from the comfort of your own home. For those unfamiliar with the show, KLRU's award-winning series focuses on, well, the downtown area. Topics covered in past seasons have been: Waller Creek, First Night Austin, bicycle messengers, Austin's hip-hop scene, the Austin Farmer's Market, urban density, and more. Each thirty-minute episode is made up of three main stories with two short vignettes in between them; the series uses the voices of interviewees to tell the stories (in other words, there's no narrator or host). KLRU's series has a glossy modern look, showing facets of Austin that keep the viewer excited to live here.

Thursday night's episode will take a look at transportation plans for downtown, the history of the Scottish Rite Theatre, and the nature of the Congress Avenue bridge.

Hopefully they'll figure out how to do a cheapie DVD release of this series someday. I think it'd be a fun thing to have on in the background or show to all my out-of-town friends as a good summation of why I like Austin so much.
