Come Back, Kids! It's Annual Farm Day at Pure Luck Goat Dairy
Amelia Sweethardt, a young Texas native, oversees day-to-day operations at Pure Luck Farm and Dairy, just outside of Dripping Springs. Her award-winning goat cheese, carried by Whole Foods, Central Market and Wheatsville, is not only the stuff of local legend, but also the subject of a recent article in Oprah magazine.
As Oprah tells it, Amelia inherited Pure Luck Farm -- one of the first in Texas to be certified organic -- from her mom, Sara Bolton. Sara, who passed away in 2005, spent over 20 years fashioning the farm around an ideal of environmental sustainability, certain sweet, four-legged creatures known as goats, and her own impeccably developed taste buds.
Today, Amelia and several other family members work hard to maintain Sara's high standards of cheesemaking, and they continue to put l-o-v-e in every batch. This Satuday, the public is invited to witness that top-secret process as Pure Luck holds its annual Open Farm Day. When you stop by, you can also:
- Milk the goats (instruction provided)
- Take a tour of the farm and the dairy
- Feed and pet the baby goats
- “Pig” out on goat cheese (just some farm humor, folks!)
- Buy cheeses and other farm products at the farmstand
And, if you get the chance, ask Amelia about the handcrafted goat cheese with honey and roses that she served at her wedding last weekend! Yum...
