Final Week at Fuse Box Fest

Sadly, it is upon us. We'd say they saved the best for last, but the whole darn fest has been great from start to finish. Along those lines, all of the offerings these last several days look to be par excellence. Here're just a few.

  • The Blue Screen International Program, Part I, curated by Lisa Kaselak. (Read Lisa's interview with Refraction Arts' Ron Berry here.) This 1.5 hour program, tonight only, 8pm at the Blue Theater, features seven short films ranging in format and style, from animation to dramatic narrative. Something for everyone! We've taken a sneak peek at the program; every one of the shorts looks fascinating. (Part II is on Saturday; location TBA; contact Refraction Arts for details.)
  • Fetish and other dances, performed by Hijack (from Minneapolis), Wednesday through Friday, 8pm at the Off Center. Dance isn't our area of expertise, but this little quote from the Fetish site intrigued us: "It takes an incredibly deft touch to hold such silliness and pain together, but the women of Hijack seem to possess it...." Silliness and pain? That we'd like to see.
  • Ben Aqua, Thursday through Saturday, 8pm at the Blue Theatre. Simply check out Ben Aqua's work at OK!Fresh to see why we recommend this "performance/music" piece that's described as "a satirical glimpse into the occult as a means of analyzing and interpreting pop culture, notions of masculine identity, and mankind’s fascination with apocalypse." Satire, occult, pop culture, masculine identity, apocalypse. Got it.

StrollergirlsAs usual, there is more-so-much-more, such as a Site-Specific Adventure Day that kicks off at the Blue at 11am and runs you all over town -- including a stroller/dance performance at Auditorium Shores (awesome!) -- until you and your fellow adventurers collapse, enthralled and exhausted, some twelve hours later. But really, check it all out at the Fuse Box website.

Just when I thought no one could top the Berkeley Doo-Dah Parade Precision Lawn Chair team, here come some Austinites with Baby Stroller Choreography. I LOVE IT!
