Museo Alameda Grand Opening This Weekend
If you need an excuse to visit San Antonio this weekend, you might check out the grand opening festivities for the Museo Alameda del Smithsonian. The museum is the largest in the nation dedicated to Latino arts and culture and is the official state Latino museum. Their mission statement is to "tell the story of the Latino experience in America through art, history and culture."
Museo Alameda is also the first museum (outside of D.C.) to be formally affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution. This means a much shorter trip to see some of the Institution's collection; we anticipate some great collaborations between the museum and the Institution.
The grand opening kicks off tonight at 6pm with fireworks, tours of the museum, and um, a concert by Linda Ronstadt. Admission is free all weekend as the celebration continues.
Opening Celebration: Tonight, 6pm -midnight
Family Festival: Saturday, April 14, 10am-10pm & Sunday, April 15, 12pm-6pm
