Singing Tesla Coils? Yes, Please.

In a city where gadget geeks and analog-loving musicians abound, we're surprised that there aren't more of these events taking place: tonight, the folks behind Austin Dorkbot are hosting an evening of open-source, DIY audio and "seriously strange sounds."
Taking place at Brentwood Tavern, "Transparent Mike Night" is presented in an open mic format and showcases a spectacular salmagundi of zany instruments, recording devices, mixing tools, and other, never-been-done-before kind of audio devices. At least eight acts are scheduled to perform, including the "world-famous" Therapings, Singing Tesla Coils, and Bleep Labs' Thingamagoops -- yes, we've no idea what any of these are either, but we're intrigued.
Hosts and resident DIYists David Nunez and Maida Barbour would love it if you brought your own circuit-bending toys or strange noise-making devices--body parts notwithstanding--to show off tonight. Kids are welcome.
