Max Barry at BookPeople this Friday

barry_company.jpgYou might think that observational office-centric humor has been over done, what with Office Space and two versions of The Office, Anglo and American. And who -among the old skool set- can forget the venerable Nine to Five, the movie and both incarnations of the television show? Dabney Coleman is a genius! But have you ever experienced office satire...in book form!?

Company is Max Barry's fictional foray into that obtuse world bred by capitalism, where the absurd and the mundane coexist to turn a profit by quarter's end. Dedicated to Hewlett Packard, the book is heavily informed by the author's too many years spent working in sales for the printer/computer giant. Company is also informed by Barry's comic insight and his ability to tease the subtle, ironic tensions rife in the office world. The book wastes no time drawing you in -or making you laugh- when Roger, Sales Rep. 3, tries to unveil the conspiracy behind a missing donut.

Max Barry has authored two other novels, Syrup and Jennifer Government, and to promote the latter he developed NationStates, a web-based RPG that enables users to setup and run countries in anyway they see fit. He'll be in Austin Friday night to pimp the paperback release of Company and to convince the skeptics in attendance that he's their new favorite satirist.

I was actually hoping you were right. I'm not sure if I'm gonna be able to make it on Friday and Max Barry is one of my favorite authors. I finally get a chance to see the guy and something else comes up. So disappointing.

You are correct sir! The changes have been made, thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Wait, I thought this was suppose to be on Friday?? Did Max decide to come a couple days early or something? Both BookPeople and Max Barry's website still say Friday.
