I would never have guessed it would’ve taken some of my friends an entire week to recuperate from SXSW, but it was staring me in the face. Peeps were laying low and catching up on sleep. I didn’t go too crazy myself, due to work obligations, but it also helped to partake of those delightful bloody marys at the Peacock on the Saturday during Southby. There’s a touch of wasabi in the mix that WHEW! wakes you up. Thanks, kids. I needed that.

I have a favor to ask you, dear reader, if you’ll take a moment to ponder it. I’m happy to report that The Laurie Show on Friday nights is going rather well, and I’d like to take this moment to thank everyone for the kind emails and support sent my way for this program and for Before the Break, the web segment I produce that highlights local music artists and others involved in the music community. However, I need your help more than ever.

We’ve started the 2007 Spring Pledge Drive at KUT 90.5, and I need you to make your voices heard. I ask that you please let my KUT co-workers know that The Laurie Show and Before the Break are essential contributions to the station; the way you can do that is by showin’ a little love and pledging your support.

You can do so by giving them a buzz at (512) 471-6291, or for you peeps outside the Austin area who listen online, 1-888-471-6291 toll free, and make a donation. Every amount counts, kids, no worries. You don’t have to be Donald Trump. If you prefer, you can donate online. If you could, please, please mention The Laurie Show and/or Before the Break. Let's keep these programs going so I can highlight local artists the way I’ve been doing for awhile now, and let KUT know that we mean business!

Thanks for letting me get on my soap box for a bit. And now, on to the music about town that’s inspiring tonight’s Laurie Show.

Once again, it's a busy Friday night, baby. Great gigs all over Emo's: Antelope is headlining a show on the outside stage, featuring AM Syndicate, Lomita, and The Always Ready. Inside, Loxsly shares the stage with Elfpower.

In the cozy Emo's Lounge, it’s the spectacular performance shenanigans of HUG. Honestly, how can one not be happy at a HUG show? You’d have to be dead or incredibly boring. Gyrating moves, confetti, stuffed animals, insanity...all good for the soul. Confuzatron and Ruthless Fuberto join in the festivities, the latter of which happens to be a Butthole Surfers tribute band.

The Red River action on Saturday’s also hopping. The Moonlight Towers and Mr. Lewis & the Funeral Five invade Room 710, while the Mohawk hands the stage over to Baby Robots, Fiction, and Cassette for another great show. Many thanks to Cassette for getting me a fantastic demo with new music.

Sunday is another show night with an interesting bill, indeed, at Beerland, starring the Jungle Rockers, She, Sir , Friday After Dark and Yoga Oh Yes.

I about had a cow when I heard that those crazy Jungle Rockers are opening for the man, the myth, the ultra legendary Little Richard on Saturday for this free – yes, FREE – show at the UT Main Mall. Mr. Black Joe Lewis will also be on hand to get the music started. SCREAM it, baby.

I also wanted to mention a show scheduled for Thursday, March 29 at Emo's, featuring Xiu Xiu, Shearwater and Casiotone For the Painfully Alone playing the inside stage. On the same date in the Emo's Lounge will be a Proper Gander Magazine Benefit Show, with performances by Attack Formation, Cry Blood Apache, Bill Baird, Peter Stopschinski of Brown Whornet, and Silver Pines.

There you have it, kids, and I’m absolutely positive I didn’t include everything. But, I must gather music for my own shenanigans on tonight’s program. Step in time: 11 p.m. to 3 in the frickin’ morning, on KUT 90.5 FM, or stream it on online.

My special thanks goes to Allen Chen and the Austinist for giving me the wonderful opportunity to host their spectacular SXSW day show at the Mohawk. Thanks also go out to Misprint Magazine for making my KUT ad look purty, and for making me smile, as usual; and abundant thanks to all the bands and solo artists who graciously supplied me with CDs for my humble show, and for their supportive words.

Until next time! And, in the words of my pal RoboCop, thank you for your cooperation.
