    Stew,

Shouldn't you be dragging girls home by the hair at that hour?

  • Patrick

Yeah, I think the 2 a.m. idea is really cool, although they'd have to stop serving alcohol after those hours. But hey, maybe they could show Korey Coleman's 2 a.m. at 2 a.m. I'd go!

  • Aaron

that 2am movie idea sounds mighty fine. :-)

  • Stew

Where's the outcry about the "evil" landlords forcing Alamo Drafthouse to move? I would think more Austinites have frequented Alamo Drafthouse downtown than Las Manitas.

And a suggestion to the new Alamo Drafthouse at the Ritz: please have movies showing at 2:00am-2:30am so I can see some sweet flicks while I'm still drunk.

"I think this moves suks...I mean rent is rent and if it must be done it must be done...BUT, I hate the idea of it being on DRUNK Street(6th St.) when going to or leaving a Movie."

Or, one could say that this is a hopeful first step in the making of a renaissance in the area. There's some cool stuff over there, but the drunk idiot crowd keeps lots of decent people away. The less generic crap bars the better.

Does this really change things that much, Cl. Sanders? There are drunk people on Colorado, 4th, 5th, and every other street downtown. The parking situation is the same. And the Ritz site is bigger.

Anyway, if the Colorado site is so much better, I'm sure someone will come along and open the Battle of San Jacinto Draft House in the old location, and people that are afraid of 6th Street will flock there.

Overall I think bad idea...I might only go to the SOUTH location now. Which suks cause they have all the "EVENTS" at the Downtown location.

    Just my opinion. :)

  • Patrick

I'll really miss the old one for nostalgia-related reasons, but overall this seems like a decent spot to move it to. If we get a bigger screen out of the deal -- probably the current downtown location's biggest weakness -- it'll probably be worth it.

  • Edward

According to the statesman article, the sign and the marquee will stay and the location will be known as the Alamo Drafthouse at the Ritz.

  • Conrad

This does bring up the good question of what will happen to the Ritz sign.
