LAist Recommends: Har Mar Superstar, The Broken West

My name is Tony Pierce, I'm the Editor of LAist, here in your fine town for SXSW. This is my third year doing the 9-day marathon of Interactive, Film, and Rock and I've gotta say that this is the best week-and-a-half that I get to spend each year.

Although no one argues that Austin is the live music capital of the world, LA has been known to be home of some pretty decent bands, so may I invite you to drop by some of these shows tonight if you happen to be strolling by:

8pm: Sea Wolf @ Blender Bar
9pm: Division Day @ Blender Bar
10pm: Monsters Are Waiting @ Friends
11pm: Joe Purdy @ The Rio or Great Northern @ Soho Lounge
Midnight: The Broken West @ Antone's
1am: Har Mar Superstar @ The Flamingo Cantina

And if you want to totally ignore all things LA, follow us after the jump for our recommendations...

may we recommend:

8pm: I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch in the House @ Room 710
8:30p: Elemeno P @ The Parish II
9pm: Kristoffer Ragnstam @ Lambert's
10pm: Grand Champeen @ Room 710
11pm: The Mountain Goats @ Emo's
12:30am: Peter, Bjorn and John @ La Zona Rosa

The Broken West is awesome. Har Mar Superstar? Not so much.

heya speaking of LA -- and should you be work-bound -- KCRW folks broadcasting from Tequila Mockingbird Studios , austin

they're featuring mostly sxsw artists, also in-studio performances

you can live stream on your itunes.

fire it up!!

What about Van Halen or Motley Crue?

I saw the Har Mar show, based solely on the recommendation of the Spoon song, "Small Stakes."

It *was* amusing. But then again I've always sorta wondered what it would be like if Jon Lovits sang karaoke in a speedo.

Jon Lovitz perhaps but I was at the shot last night too and I was thinking more of a clean-shaven Ron Jeremey.

Glad you liked the gig!
