Can't We All Just Get Along?

cowboys.jpgIt's about to get a touch more interesting at SXSW this weekend. Instead of simply wading through the throngs of festival goers on Red River this Saturday, you may now find yourself in the middle of a classic rivalry as well.

On the afternoon of March 17th, 2007, here in the capital of Texas, Cowboys and Hippies will finally do battle...with water balloons. After the two parties gather forces at 1:55pm--we surmise high-noon was too early for the Hippies to settle the score--they will converge somewhere between here and here.

hippies.jpgWhat follows promises to be epic, or at least extremely stank. Have you ever smelled a wet hippy or a wet cowboy? Have you ever smelled both a wet hippy and a wet cowboy at the same time?

If you are vehemently for or against either hippies or cowboys, put on your chaps or your patchwork bell-bottoms and bring as many water balloons as you can carry. Hippies are to meet in the parking lot of Chain Drive (Willow St. & Red River) at 1:55pm and Cowboys are to meet in the parking lot of The Texas Retirement Association (10th & Red River) at 1:55pm.

Hippies vs. Cowboys
Saturday, March 17th
Red River St., between Willow St. and 10th

The local chapter of the Chupacabra Policia is willing to take the side of the cowboys, for a small fee of course.

They have to do like confused and throw water balloons on themselves.

What about all the hippy cowboys? On which side will they stand, in their tattered Soap Creek Saloon t-shirts?

Oh my SCIENCE! I can't wait. I'm going to blow off free beer at a day party for this. Awesome!!! GO HIPPIES!

Anybody from LA is automatically a hippy, right off the bat. I'm kinda confused too though, for the opposite reason. There were a bunch of modern-day-cowboys I didn't get along with in high school and still resent. But I like old-style cowboys and old country and bandanas and shit like that, so I think I'm gonna have to root for the rootin' tootin's.

What do we do if we belong to both camps??? Perhaps if I stand on the sideline and throw balloons at myself, I will finally find my vegetarian cowboy soulmate. More likely I'll just run into crowds of LA tourists with blue cowboy hats and hig heelied boots.

    Man I hate hippies.

  • Tex

This is going to RULE!!! Watch out, hippies! I'm like Nolan Ryan with the water balloons!

I think Phil Collins said it best:

I've been waiting for this moment, all my life.
