Just in time for SXSW, Google today announced that it has partnered up with Capital Metro to provide Austin public transportation information on their way-nifty Google Transit Trip Planner.
Using their straightforward interface, you simply enter in where you'd like to go, where you're coming from, and (if you're fancy) what time you'd like to depart or arrive. Google Transit takes care of everything else, accessing CapMetro's fancy databases to figure out exactly what route would be the most efficient.
We took the app for a spin, asking it to plot out the best way to get from the original Hyde Park Grille to the new one at Westgate. As promised, it brings up what looks like the optimal route.
Try it out here.
(Thanks to Kenny Grossman and Frank C. Harris Jr. for the tip!)

wtg, google. This would have been really useful 5 years ago when CapMet didn't have their Trip Planner tool on their site.
But I love google. I can't wait 'til they come out with something to tell me what to wear in the morning so's I don't clash so much.
Dear Google:
I just used your traffic thing the other day. It was pretty great. Now you go and do this? Will you please install yourself in my brain and take care of general cognitive function for me? That would be amazing. I love you...
adam.
ol'pappy,
Yes, it does do the same thing as the Trip Planner but it mashes it up with Google Maps! Visualization is an amazing thing. :-D
Well whattaya know! That is cool. I use Trip Planner mainly for times but it'll be neat to use that google tool to see connecting stops and stuff.
