    sw = sarcasm warning

As for wristbands not being able to get access. You're only going to the big name band shows then. I personally have had a badge for years and before that a wristband for the first 5-6 years of going. I've never had an issue and I have plenty of friends who follow me around to shows in which they only have wristbands. Last year I never saw them wait more than 10 minutes. The festival is great for people who know music, it is usually only a problem for people who only know the radio and single songs from given artists.

Okay, I'm ignorant. What DOES (sw) mean?

  • JB

What's the point? Last year's wristband was basically a waste of money since most of the shows were packed and only badgeys were let in.

  • thatwasawkward

    ugh. didn't see it. sorry

  • Grape Ape

Apparently someone doesn't know what (sw) means.

  • Grape Ape

4:15pm and they were still selling - people were still in line too.

$750! You can get two badges on craigslist for less that that. and if you're going to spend that much anyway, why not get badges...jesus.

  • Nate Dogg

I just got back and it is pure madness out there. If you aren't already in line don't even waste your time going out there. You won't get a ticket at this point.

  • Grape Ape

Wow - thought I got there late and ended up in a line that was at the top of the hill behind Waterloo. My thoughts changed as I made my way tot the door to seea second spiral starting next to the original line that was already wrapped around the block. Went to have lunch, drove back by at 1:40 or so and its still a mob scene.

With that said, I have two wristbands I'm willing to sell. First $750 takes both of them (sw)

I got the message at 12:09. Luckily for me, I was about to eat at Waterloo Ice House and I saw the signs on the doors around 12:05. Ten people in line when I got my tickets, at least 500 people in line by 12:30. The line went around Waterloo Ice House, behind the stores and wrapped back along the sidewalk of Waterloo Records by the time I left. Good luck.

I routinely don't get text msgs from friends for an hour.. 30 minutes.. etc. Sometimes the network isn't so reliable, right?

Plus, I'm guessing that every text msg was in a queue. There's no way to send all those messages in parallel unless whatever provider they are using has changed their API. So, if 1000 messages had to go out -- even if the process was threaded appropriately -- there still were some messages that were sent before another message. That's how software works (sometimes).

It's not the end of the world. The system isn't perfect, but the bracelets are still available 2 hours later.

As far as I know, there are two different SMS services, one for badge holders and one for us lowly people.

Remember, SXSW is "an industry event only". You are not important to SXSW. No one in Austin, aside from Willy Nelson, is important to SXSW. You are here to serve SXSW by moving out of the way and allowing some drunk, obnoxious band from who-cares-where to sleep in your yard. Move along, please.

  • Ryan

That sucks. I got my SMS message.

  • Ryan

Nope, not even close. I'm a 512 area code holding Austin resident. Central Austin, even.

  • Tom

I have a 512 cell number, and I didn't get the message either.

  • Kevin

    Ryan,

I'm guessing you are a non-512 area code number. This round of wristbands is only for Austin residents (you have to show proof of Austin residence), so they only sent to 512 numbers in their database.

  • Ryan

Not that I was going to buy one, but why didn't I receive an SMS alert!?!? I thought that is how this would be announced and I'm a registered Interactive badge holder who receives other SMS alerts.
