My friend and fellow music lover John Gross, one of the proprietors of the fabulous music promotion vehicle known as Party Ends, reminded me about a fantastic weekend fundraiser that will surely entertain with great music…and great beer.

Party Ends has teamed up with the good folks of Independence Brewing Co. to present Draft Sessions, a benefit show tomorrow night, with proceeds going to the Groundwork Music Project, an organization that raises funds for children’s music education.

Draft Sessions is a noble cause, friends. Local DJ’s, music bloggers, bands, and Independence Brewing Co. showcase local talent while raising funds for local non-profits. This weekend’s show will feature live performances by ‘Til We’re Blue Or Destroy and Awesome Cool Dudes. A mere $5 gets you into the festivities, kids. You can’t beat that. Two bucks per beer is not a bad deal, either.

The brewery is located at 3913 Todd Lane, #607. The party runs from 8 p.m. ‘til midnight. DJ Orion spins tracks in between the live sets. Mr. Gross also encouraged me to “feel free to tell everyone you know about how cool it's going to be.” Without hesitation, sir.

The Boxing Lesson takes to the stage at the Mohawk on Red River tomorrow night, along with Teenage Symphony, Prayer For Animals, and Eat Avery’s Bones. Crunch, crunch. Much love goes to the Mohawk, with extra special thank-yous to the lovely peeps inside at the Grizzly Bar.

(Just saying “Grizzly Bar” reminds me of Sissy Spacek in Coal Miner’s Daughter: “Stop a-makin’ that noise, Do. You sound like a big ol’ bar.” I never get tired of that.)

This Sunday looks like a good time for winding down a bit at the Peacock Lounge, at 515 Pedernales. George Irwin of local band Just Guns has gathered a group of friends to form George and Co., and they’ll open a show featuring The Heirs and You Were Always. The gig begins promptly at 8 p.m., early enough for a school night. Head on out. As Mr. Irwin says, “It should be noted that the Peacock ladies make a mighty fine cocktail.” Indeed, they do.

Two other great shows that come to mind are happening next week: My Education is on the bill with the Red Sparrowes at Emo’s Wednesday night. Darling New Neighbors are playing a show on Wednesday as well that includes Baby Robots and Triplewide at the Chain Drive, located at 504 Willow.

Meanwhile, tonight’s the night I frighten the locals. You know the gig: 11 p.m. to 3 in the frickin’ morning on KUT 90.5. And I invite you to check out the latest edition of my humble segment, Before the Break, featuring Ian Orth of Learning Secrets. Many more episodes of Before the Break are on the way!

In the words of our pal RoboCop, thank you for your cooperation.
