Capsule Review: New Young Pony Club's Self-titled EP

NYPC.jpgWe like to have songs on our dance playlists that will outlive this weekend’s party. New Young Pony Club’s “Ice Cream” has been in the mix for quite some time now, and it still isn’t old. The band’s self-titled EP includes three mixes of this gem by Comets, Van She (on Modular with NYPC), and DJ Mehdi. Others on the EP include “Descend” and “Get Dancey,” two other high-quality indie-electro tracks.

This is a dance band based around its synth and tastefully embellished with guitar. The female sing-say vocals give it just the right edge. Some call it “new rave” (though we’re not quite sure what that means since the sound is neither new nor rave); we call it fantastic. Even though the EP doesn’t offer much variety, other tracks leaked on the web have proven that “Ice Cream” (and its kick-ass video) are just the amuse-bouche for NYPC.
