For those of us who are dying to see Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's Grindhouse, April just isn't coming fast enough. We mean, have you seen the trailer for this thing? Zombies! Carnage! A girl with a gun for a leg! We're foaming at the mouth just thinking about it.
Anyhow—to tide us over until April, Mr. Rodriguez has teamed up with SXSW and the Alamo Drafthouse to present a Grindhouse Double Feature at Republic Square Park on March 10th! Rodriguez himself will be on hand to introduce screenings of two classic blood-and-guts flicks: Sergio Martino's Torso and Lucio Fulci's Zombie, both of which influenced the making of Grindhouse, and both of which are violently awesome.
Tickets are $10 and go on sale next Friday (February 23rd), but if you're a SXSW Badgeholder, you get in for free (we're assuming this means any type of badge). We suggest you bring one of those foldy chairs, and maybe a zombie-bashing implement of some kind. You may also want to watch this to prepare yourself for the unlikely but not impossible event of a full-scale zombie invasion.

So, wait, you have to pay to see the movie in the (public) Republic Park? Are they going to put up a wall of trashbag tarp around the place like a giant fratparty?
Robert Rodriguez doesn't make good movies. One bad thing about living in Austin is that I keep having to hear about him.
Chris: They'll put a temporary fence around the park, yes.
Trianon: These aren't Rodriguez movies, so you're all set!
How big is the park? Never been there...
One city block. Not all that big, really. It's the park between 4th and 5th on Guadalupe.
holy heck! Is this in Texas and if so what area because that sounds super fun.. I'm from NY and I would totally fly down to texas just to see Robert Rodriguez and some original Grindhouse movies. Maybe I can convince my mom because it's the day before my birthday!
