ah, i see now why they were taking so long to release the list: they were trying to hide the fact that nobody's playing.

Am I the only one that thinks their list isnt exactly complete? Artists that have personally confirmed didn't seem to be on that list...

That's an interesting yet uninformed perspective, because my band's playing and we found out a while ago. Many bands found out long before now. The list hasn't been made PUBLIC until now, but bands have been receiving notification for months. Of course they can't tell bands "No, thanks" until they have a somewhat complete lineup. (And I know from experience that trying to book musicians is like trying to herd cats). Bands find out whether they are playing by getting an email, not by checking the website.

I hope lots of people think that the list blows. Better chance I'll get into Stubb's to see the Stooges that way. Not to mention the dozens of other awesome bands playing.

The Mastodon/Boris show isn't the Vice party, it's the SXSW Auditorium Shores show. What may have confused you is that Boris IS playing the Vice party, with Melvins, Pelican, and others at Stubb's on Thursday.

i dunno about anyone else, but i feel completely underwhelmed by this year's lineup. does this mean i'm officially becoming one of the jaded austinites who is starting to hate the foreigners who come to sxsw? dear god, i hope not.
