Fantastic Fest Badges On Sale Today

fantastic_fest_02-06-07.jpgThough it’s still a full eight months away, the third annual Fantastic Fest is already gearing up, and badges officially went on sale today at noon.

If you missed our coverage of last year’s fest, here’s a quick primer: Fantastic Fest is an eight-day festival showcasing the very best in new horror, sci-fi, fantasy, Asian and cult films (supplemented by various genre retrospectives and classic horror). The festival is curated by AICN's Harry Knowles, Big Smash and Cinemuerte Film Festival founder Kier-La Janisse, SXSW Film's Matt Dentler, and the Alamo Drafthouse's Lars Nilsen and Zack Carlson. In short, it’s the most badass genre festival you could ever imagine.

Last year’s festival saw the Austin premieres of some big films, including Pan’s Labyrinth, Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto, Darren Aronofsky’s The Fountain, Terry Gilliam’s Tideland and Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning—most with the filmmakers in attendance. But it also gave festgoers a first look at some brilliant upcoming films, including Korean monster movie The Host, British comedy/slasher flick Severance and the bafflingly amazing Japanese fantasy Funky Forest.

Speaking from our experience last year, we think it’s worth it to get the VIP badge. A general admission badge will get you into most films just fine, but it's nice to have that VIP status for the special screenings and bigger-name premieres.

Only 500 badges will be sold in total, so if you’re going to get one, now is the time.
