SXSW Presents Returns to KLRU TV

SXSW Presents returns to KLRU TV tomorrow for its third season, with four brand new episodes slated to run through the end of February. The critically acclaimed series, hosted by SXSW Film Fest Producer Matt Dentler, showcases some today's finest examples of independent filmmaking, many of which have a local emphasis -- past epiodes have featured Viva Les Amis, 24 Hours on Craigslist, and Witches in Exile.

BBQ: A Texas Love Story

February 6th, 9-10pm
"No other place in the world looks, smells or tastes quite like Texas. Tour the Lone Star State for an unbelievable look at its colorful people and their fascination and obsession with barbecue. The defining Texas documentary of our time, Barbecue cleverly explores every facet of life in Texas. From the Church of the Holy BBQ to a BBQ cave in the desert, Director Chris Elley and his crew take you on a road trip like no other. Narrated by Governor Ann Richards and featuring notables such as Dan Rather, Ray Benson, Kinky Friedman, Everclear lead singer Art Alexakis, Liz Carpenter, Chris Layton, the UT Student BBQ Club, plus a plethora of entertaining small town characters." Pedal

February 13th, 9-10pm
"Pedal is a fast-paced documentary film about surviving in the streets of New York City as a bicycle messenger. It features messengers from all walks of life as they battle traffic in a race to make their next delivery on time. Directed by Sutherland and produced by Ana Lombardo, Pedal the documentary lets viewers live the spectacle of the delivery itself. It premiered in 2001 at the South by Southwest Film Festival, and was later acquired by the Sundance channel, where it aired until 2004." [link]

SXSW Shorts: Animated Program

February 20th, 9-10pm
A selection of intriguing animated short films, including Heart Collector ("A man with no heart rips out the hearts of lovers in order to make himself one of his own."), Mural ("About a painter [who] is haunted by his own mind, which is represented by his painting."), and Famous: The Night Asher the Clown Forgot to Wear his Pants ("Asher the clown is serious about performing. He concentrates, he focuses, he prepares, but unfortunately he forgets one thing.") [link]

SXSW Shorts: Reel Shorts

February 27th, 9-10pm
Just four of the short films to be showcased at this year's SXSW Film Festival: Larrylandia ("In the Mission district of San Francisco lives Larry, a man consumed by his passion for a game rooted in ancient ritual."), Dumb Angel ("An adrenaline-infused homage to improvisational filmmaking, while examining the odd relationship between fame, talent and television celebrity."), Nevel is the Devil ("A supervisor at a consumer product testing laboratory interrogates two suspects of a devilish prank."), Viva Morrissey (How the ex-Smiths frontman has influenced thousands of young Latinos in Los Angeles County) [link]


All screenings air Tuesday evenings on KLRU TV, 9-10pm.
