Preparing for the Epic Battle: Austinist's Guide to Superbowl XLI Festivities

superbowl_preview.jpegThis Sunday, February 4th at 5:25pm central time, the world supremacy of American football for the 2006 season will be decided when the Colts of Indianapolis face the Bears of Chicago on the hallowed turf of Dolphin Stadium in Miami, Florida. Captained by the tenacious Brian Urlacher (a man who was known to bed a wench named Paris some fortnights ago), will the formidable Bears defense overcome late season gaffes and rise to this the most super of occasions? Or will they be vexed by the ball throwing wizardry of Peyton Manning? Many coaches have surmised that to foil Manning is to pressure him, yet many coaches, when applying pressure, have been burned by the long ball. Perhaps the contest will be decided by a field goal kick from the golden-legged veteran, Adam Vinatieri, or a late-game dash by the boastful and young Cedric Benson. Oh, what a battle it will be!

Do you not possess an adequate amount of gold or riches to witness the game in person? Not to worry, Austinist has furnished for you an ample list of mead halls in possession of sorcerer's boxes upon which to watch this most highly anticipated contest.

There are of course the time-tested, traditional sports bars. Were you a jaded New Orleans Saints fan you might find solace in viewing the match at Shoal Creek Saloon. If you prefer a mead hall that boasts sorcerer's boxes as large as its selection of beers without the bother of liquor or food service, then seek refuge at Little Woodrow's. The Tavern, Ringers, and Texas Chili Parlor will undoubtedly be offering various food and drink specials with ample, unobstructed views of the championship contest.

If none of these venues suit your taste then hurry thee to the Alamo Downtown. The doors will be opened one hour prior to the kickoff (4:30pm). Admission is free and seating is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Those lucky enough to gain entrance will enjoy pizza and burger specials and the ability to purchase beer by the bucket or the pitcher.

scoot_logo.pngScoot Inn will be furnishing weary travelers with beef brisket -while it lasts- and inexpensive libations on the day of the contest. They are also encouraging patrons to bring in their own sorcerer's boxes as they only have two. You would be wise to wear nice socks to this event as shoes will not be allowed to tread on the bier garten's freshly laid marble flooring.

Were you fearful of sunlight, orcs, or interacting with other mortals, then there should be no shame in viewing the battle from the comfort and solitude of your own lair. Just be certain that your sorcerer's box has access to CBS and that you secure ample meat, Doritos and ale prior to kick-off.

It truly was a gift from the heavens, delivered from the hands of Odin.

Woody's South is also having specials during the game.
