Voting Deadline for 2007 PLUG Awards is Tomorrow

Tomorrow's your last chance to vote in the PLUG Independent Music Awards, the annual audience-juried awards event that recognizes the most promising artists and members of the independent music community. Beyond traditional music categories like Album of the Year, New Artist of the Year, and genre-specific awards, PLUG also celebrates everything from live venues and music festivals to internet radio stations and music blogs.

This year, several Austin or Texas-based bands, stores, and organizations are in the running, including:

  • Voxtrot (New Artist)
  • Midlake - The Trials of Van Occupanther (Indie Rock Album)
  • The Sword - Age Of Winters (Metal Album)
  • Alejandro Escovedo - The Boxing Mirror (Americana Album)
  • Midlake - "Roscoe" (Song)
  • Midlake - "Young Bride" (Music Video)
  • The Black Angels - Passover (Album Art)
  • Emo's (Venue)
  • SXSW (Music Festival)
  • Austin City Limits (Music Festival)
  • Gorilla vs Bear (Music Blog)
  • Waterloo Records (Record Store)
  • Daniel Johnston - The Devil And Daniel Johnston (Music DVD)

Make your opinion count by voting on the PLUG website before this weekend.

Boy, Austin sure has some original bands...The Sword sound just like Black Sabbath, Voxtrot sounds just like the Smiths minus any musical talent, ILUBICD sound just like every post-punk band ever, and The Black Angels sound just like every trippy-dippy 60s one-note drug band. The most middling rap tune on Hot 93 is more listenable than entire albums on this list.

as much as i love austin and its music scene (or at least certain parts of it), i voted for those who i truly believe should win their respective plug awards...and that's pretty fortunate for waterloo records (best record store), the acl festival (best festival), the devil and daniel johnston (best music dvd) and the black angels (best album art)...and well, not so fortunate for midlake and voxtrot especially, who both suck major balls...on the plus side though, i also voted for an austin artist that you missed in your breakdown up there -- i love you but i've chosen darkness (best music video) for their song "the owl" -- that is really quite deserving of a victory that i'd be surprised to see them achieve in that category...but either way, it's a fucking great video, that one, *and* an excellent band thus far (though it's hard to go wrong playing an authentic post-punk-y stew that's reminiscent of joy division, the bunnymen, the furs, and talk talk in different places, yet sounds amazingly fresh among what else the '00s have to offer these days)...okay, well...cheers!
