ILASSA Conference Starts Tomorrow

1.31.07IlassaPosterThe 27th Student Conference on Latin America, organized by the Institute of Latin American Studies Student Association (ILASSA) at The University of Texas at Austin starts tomorrow, Feb. 1 with Anderson Sá, the Brazilian social activist who is the protagonist of the film Favela Rising. Sá will be speaking at 6:30 p.m. in the Thompson Conference Center, Room 1.110.

Events will continue through Feb. 3 with student presentations throughout the day on Friday and Saturday morning through noon. Saturday afternoon, Bolivian activist Oscar Olivera will be speaking at 2 p.m., also in Thompson Conference Center Room 1.110. The event is free and open to the public, and more information is available at the ILASSA website.

    Late notice, but--there is a free showing of Favela Rising in two hours (6:30pm) at the Art Building on campus, Room 1.112. Anderson Sa will give a Q&A following the film.
