Austinist Interviews SXSW: Ladyhawk

Raggedy Canadian quartet Ladyhawk dropped their self-titled debut last year on Jagjaguwar. On the heels of their accomplishment (it's a fantastic record, probably sorely over-looked in 2006) comes SXSW 2007, and you know what that means: a trip to Austin. We caught up with them somewhere in the wilds of Vancouver to talk about how awesome Austin is...

Is SXSW fun or business?

If it's business it's probably not fun, and if it's not fun then it's bad for business.

If you could open for any artist living or dead, in any era of their career, who would it be?

Neil Young, anytime, anywhere.

What's your mode of transportation for the week going to be? Tell us about your van, car, caravan, bus or donkey.

Our van is a large white whale; it rarely complains, but lately it looks a little unloved.

What album of 2006 can you not leave at home? All-time?

Tragedy-Nerve Damage
The Band-The Band

Who are you most excited to see play at SXSW?

If it's true, I'm pumped for The Stooges.

Pitchfork: do you even read it?

Nope. We occasionally get stuff from the label dudes to read.

Any previous trips to Austin? Betcha something fun happened-share it please.

Our friend Travis (Okkervil River) and his roommate Dan put us up every time we come to Austin. They're great fellas who know how to host guests. The first time we stayed with them we drove straight through from Tucson and showed up to Travis' at 11pm. He had a cooler of Lonestars, a grill full of all sorts of radness, and a bag of the good stuff to smoke (or as good as it gets in Texas). He showed us some great places to eat, and got us trashed the whole time we were around. Thanks, Travis. Our show was good and Phil (Emo's) also got us wasted. Thanks Phil and everybody else at Emo's. Austin rules.

Ladyhawk rock SXSW March 14-17. They will play at an unspecified time at an undisclosed location.
