Moon Pies and Movie Stars Giveaway

bookcover_moonpies.jpgWhen Ruby Kincaid spots her estranged daughter, Violet, in a TV ad, she promptly fires up the Winnebago and, with two friends and the two wily grandchildren her daughter abandoned in tow, sets out for Hollywood. It's just another adventure for Ruby, a Texas widow left in charge of her husband's bowling alley. Amy Wallen's debut novel, Moon Pies and Movie Stars, is a feisty piece of fiction about an equally feisty cast of characters.

The book is being heaped with praise for being both hilarious and heartwarming. According to Bernadette Murphy's review in the LA Times:

"MoonPies and Movie Stars" demonstrates that heartfelt narratives served with a heaping scoop of humor have an important place in contemporary writing. Eschewing detachment and irony, Wallen capably illustrates that it is not only possible but also compelling to be funny, captivating and compassionate, all in the same book.

Amy Wallen will be at BookPeople tomorrow to discuss and sign copies of Moon Pies and Movie Stars. As an added bonus, Austinist has one free copy of Moon Pies and Movie Stars to give to one lucky reader.

Congratulations Mbuto!
