FronteraFest 2007 - Long Fringe Monday

bp.jpgThat's right: it's time to heat up your winter nights again, with the 14th season of FronteraFest. The Short Fringe, the Long Fringe, or Mi Casa es su Teatro -- FronteraFest is five weeks of alternative, offbeat, new, and just plain off-the-wall fringe theatre presented by Hyde Park Theatre and Austin Script Works.

Long Fringe - Mon Jan 29
The Long Fringe comprises several shows nightly, each up to 90 minutesThis year demand was so high for these longer (90 minutes or less) Long Fringe slots that this portion of the festival will take place at two theaters. As in past years, ten shows will play at the Blue Theater near 9th and Springdale. But this year, for the first time, ten entirely different shows will play at the brand-new City Theatre at 3823 Airport. At the Long Fringe, you can expect anything from new works by emerging playwrights to cutting-edge choreography.

Dolly Would by Zenobia Taylor (The Getalong Gang Performance Group)
Lost? Scared? Confused? Don’t fret. Just ask yourself, “What would Dolly do?” Welcome to Dolly Would, a new dance/theatre work set entirely to the music of Dolly Parton. In it, seven characters stumble, fight and dance their way through a series of obstacles, searching for love, happiness and maybe a little peace and quiet. And with the help of Dolly, they just might find it.Directed and choreographed by Zenobia Taylor. Tickets $10.

Looking Backward to Now by Doug McLauchlan (TETHERSEND Productions)
In the 1912 Presidential election, one in six Texans voted for the Socialist candidate. What were they thinking?! That man, Eugene Debs, is back and you have a chance to see how your ancestors could be so wrong. Or right? Tickets $12.

Shakespeare-Unhinged!!! by Barry Pineo
Shakespeare-Unhinged!!! is a one-man show featuring Shakespearean monologues, including pieces from Hamlet, Richard III, and Twelfth Night. Actor and writer Barry Pineo uses the monologues to delve into Shakespeare’s unique style of writing as well as to examine his own life in light of what Shakespeare teaches. As his personal story evolves, the play becomes an ode not just to Shakespeare, but to actors everywhere. Barry Pineo/Big Love Productions. Tickets $10.

The Death of Dayanara by Aimee Gonzalez (Brown Paper Package Productions)
A twisted comedy about smothering parents . . . and other ways to kill them. Allow us to introduce Fred and Sahara, their daughter Dayanara, and their trusty maid Juanita. They are the typical family: Everyone’s out to kill each other. Tickets $10.
