Black Before Red CD Release Party: Carrots, Car Stereo (Wars), It's Super, Alright?

BBRCDposter.gif Austin's Black Before Red have grabbed the reins of a wagon we've been glad to see getting its spokes dirty lately, a wagon loaded with swelling harmonies, subtly layered multi-instrumentation and compositions reminiscent of some of the greatest songs in America's catalog. Listening to their new album, Belgrave to Kings Circle, is like listening to glistening 70's California pop classics and Sea & Cake's Nassau simultaneously.

Marc Ferrino's voice is definitely in the neighborhood of a Sam Prekop, John Phillips or Todd Rundgren (think "I Went to the Mirror"), and the sound the group has created as a unit is, at the end of the day, some sort of marriage between chic lounge acts like the previously mentioned Sea & Cake, the dark piano bar in your dreams and the modern 70's revolution of bands like Midlake, Andrew Bird and The Bees (US).

Yeah, it's a three-way marriage, so what? Sounds like a party we'd like to be invited to.

Speaking of parties, we're just crawling up the walls waiting for Black Before Red's official CD release party this Saturday with The Carrots and Car Stereo (Wars). Don't wait for your invitation: it's a free party! What's more, it's being hosted by the super cool Super Alright folks and we hear they've got swank digs. Come on over, dance with us, and we promise not to storm out when you spill a little beer on our shoes and double dip your celery stick in the dressing.

Most importantly, enjoy Black Before Red playing songs from Belgrave to Kings Circle and get a t-shirt or CD while you're there.
