Austin In Denial by Stuart Hersh
Austin holds an important place in the history of race relations in the United States, but it may not be the place you think. Let newspapers take you back in Austin history to the visit of John Shillady and other events that shape the place we call home.

One A.M. Duo long form improv
Tami Nelson and Chris Trew of Coldtowne do one long scene with multiple characters.

Honey in the Heart by Patricia Fiske
A theatrical memoir celebrating the poet’s 80th birthday. Old age is not the snake pit it has the reputation of being.

Bastille Dreams by Clair LaVaye
A play about the Marquis de Sade.

Time (Austin Poetry Slam)
Austin Poetry Slam presents a collaborative spoken word piece in four voices featuring Tony Jackson, Erin Livingston, Ruff Draft, and Krissi Reeves. Direction and additional writing by Best-of-Fest alum Mike Henry.

More about tonight's Long Fringe Performances after the jump...

As in past years, ten shows will play at the Blue Theater near 9th and Springdale. But this year, for the first time, ten entirely different shows will play at the brand-new City Theatre at 3823 Airport. At the Long Fringe, you can expect anything from new works by emerging playwrights to cutting-edge choreography.

Against My Will by Daniel J. Houston (humdrum collective)
So here’s the thing. There’s this girl. She’s called G for short. She’s kind of having a crisis. Of faith or expression. Not really sure what she’s doing here. She wants her life to mean something for a moment or a billion years. All she has left are her words. But words fail. It’s a sad funny struggle. Like looking in the mirror. Directed by Erin Meyer. Tickets $10.
At The Blue Theatre, 916 Springdale

Blue Note (Company II)
A new jazz-musical adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Othello, set to the haunting backdrop of the 1950’s Philadelphia Jazz scene, is being mounted. We witness its actors’ relationships to one another on its opening night. It is a play of transformations of the human mind, and the deception which pours from that altered mind in the name of love. Tickets $5.
At The City Theatre, 3823 Airport Blvd. Suite D

The Boiler Room by Reuben Gonzalez (Teatro Vivo de Austin)
The Boiler Room invites audiences to witness a family who is on the brink of destruction. They reach that end together. In that moment, they realize that to regain their lives they must empower their strength; like shoveling coal into a roaring boiler.
At The City Theatre, 3823 Airport Blvd. Suite D

As someone who's performing at Frontera on a different night, I have to say - if you can only hit the festival for one night, hit this one. One A.M. is some of the best stuff you'll see on stage all year. (Of course, if you don't catch them at Frontera, a modicum of research will reveal plenty more opportunities for you, but still, go!)
