Our recent SXSW coverage has been generating a lot of buzz. So much buzz, in fact, that MTV News recently tracked down Austinist writer Tom Thornton to discuss it. They even went so far as to call our unofficial SXSW lineup "a certifiably punk-rock way of sticking it to the man"! And though we would like to officially deny that our intent was to stick anything to anybody, we think Tom summed things up pretty well:
"We read the [Austin Chronicle] article, and we thought, 'Now, come on. That's just silly.' And we realized that lots of bands would just confirm that they were playing through their MySpace pages or their official Web sites, and so we figured that with a few phone calls and some digging that we could put together a pretty good list," Tom Thornton, a writer for the site, explained. "And though SXSW hasn't announced most of these bands, we feel pretty confident that they're all going to be here."
Before you say it - yes, we recognize the irony inherent in our coverage of MTV's coverage. And we can only hope that this triple-coverage doesn't precipitate some kind of terrible coverage feedback loop that spirals out of control and crushes us all under the weight of its absurdity.

so meta. I think.
Good god, mtv.com is crappier than a 12 year old girl's myspace page.
It's really nice of y'all to credit the Ohio based Done Waiting, who actually did the majority of the research. But as long as your high on yourselves, who cares, right?
Absolutely, credit is given where it's due, but the majority of the research was actually done in-house, Mister, umm, Spackler.
And I hope this little jab doesn't stem from bitterness. Bygones.
you are so funny matt.
MTV calling us "punk" is like Ronald McDonald calling us "punk." Whoever introduced Kurt Loder to plastic surgery has some explaining to do.
Yeah, "we are trying to cut down on the day party scene" is the lamest excuse ever for not releasing a list of bands.
Sorry guys, but as long as the average shmoe doesn't have $500 to get in and you have a bunch of out of towners who want an excuse to drink at 10 in the morning, there IS going to be a day party scene regardless of if you choose to release the list the night before the first show.
