Guess who's coming to dinner. It might be you - if you're down with eating at the homes of local dignitaries while benefitting Project Transitions (a non-profit organization that provides housing, hospice and support services for individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS in Central Texas). On Saturday, February 3, 2007, Project Transitions hosts the 10th Annual Guess Who's Coming to Dinner fundraiser to benefit people living with HIV/AIDS. Over 350 guests are anticipated to attend dinners and later convene at NEST for a dessert and champagne reception.
For the tenth year, 25 distinguished Austinites will open their doors to host dinners for anywhere from 5 to 75 guests. And to truly keep Austin weird, guest lists are kept a surprise from the hosts and their guests until they meet for their meal. Attendees select their top dinner choices from a list of campy favorites - such as "Pyrex of the Caribbean," "Philippine Phusion," and "Lisbon Earthquake."
Seating is $100.00 per guest and is limited, so do yourself a favor and don't procrastinate.
According to steering committee member Chef Pamela Nevarez, the event's 10th anniversary is special in a couple of ways. "We have approximately 400 guests this year....up from 300-325 in previous years, so it will be a landmark year for fundraising.," Nevarez said. She added, "We have some new people on board hosting dinners, like Cissi's Market and Catering, Bill Pitts and Jose Luis Buitron of Jose Luis Salon, and Charles and Mari Johnson from 'Back Home', which is a furniture and home accessories store. Every year there is a dessert party after dinner, where everyone who attended a dinner meets for champagne, coffee and fabulous desserts (which will be donated by Whole Foods this year), and this year's will be extra fabulous with a DJ for some music and dancing (at Nest) - something we've never done before."
