Most of us can appreciate a few extra days off from work when there's inclement weather. But there are a few of us who get cabin fever. Severely.

Make no mistake: I enjoyed it the first day or so, then things got a bit loopy for yours truly during what the media referred to, quite dramatically, as "Ice Storm 2007". I started making lousy jokes about how my drinks didn't have enough ice in them, and did you know where I could find some? Ew. Very lame.

It's good to be back on mostly dry land, sans the impromptu ice rinks. I can make it to KUT 90.5 tonight to provide plenty of music for your late night listening pleasure, including some new and new-ish (to me) albums that captured my attention recently.

I was quite lucky to get previews from two local artists: Amateur Saw by Tammany Hall Machine, and An Unusual Move by Karrie Hopper, both of which will be included on tonight's playlist. Tammany Hall Machine will have it's official CD release show on January 26 at Emo's on Red River, with Lomita and 'Til We're Blue Or Destroy providing more great music. Karrie Hopper, who's album was released by Nobody's Favorite Records this month, has a performance on January 31 at Jovita's on S. 1st St., sharing the bill with Ethan Azarian, Brother Will and Tenlons Fort. As Karrie says, eat enchiladas and have a Lone Star while they serenade you for free. Sounds good to me.

Expect to hear more on my show from these two EPs, which I hope evolve into full-lengths very soon: Bundle, some fantastic music from Ink, and the self-titled EP from The Early Tapes. Great work from great local artists.

Kids, I cannot emphasize enough how much more needs to be done to promote music by local peeps. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Please get up off your collective hineys and get me your music. Pronto! Get it to me yesterday! While it's true that KUT 90.5 gets a huge amount of CDs in the mail, literally numbering into the hundreds each week, it's imperative to get your work in ASAP.

I'd like to add that this will also give me a chance to explore more ideas for my humble project, Before the Break, after I'm done catching up on stories that I'm currently completing production for, from previous interviews.

It's never too late to send it in! Please send your stuff to KUT's music director, Jeff McCord, or put it to my attention. KUT's mailing address: 1 University Station, Box A0704, Austin, TX, 78712. If you've already done so, thank you very much, and please be patient. This is a lot of listening to do.

Speaking of CD's, time to pull some together for tonight's program. You know where to find me. KUT 90.5, 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. every Friday night. Of course, as RoboCop would say, thank you for your cooperation.
