It Takes a Grocery

freshstart.jpgThis Saturday, P & K Grocery will hold a Fresh Start Fundraiser for our friend Sarah Calhoon. Around Christmastime -- you might recall the media blitz -- she and her mother lost their home and most of their possessions to a devastating South Austin fire.

Many loved ones stepped in to offer a stop-gap backbone of support, providing Sarah and her mom with food, clothing and shelter. But since the pair's financial needs are long-term and large-scale, our community -- c'mon, community! -- has gotta show up and show out for 'em. And that's where you (read: hip, worldly, empathetic Austinite) fit in.

Tomorrow, two of Sarah's favorite musicians, Matt the Electrician and Scrappy Jud Newcomb, will perform at the grocery, and you can buy $5 raffle tickets galore to the strains of their music. The potential winnings? Passes for Spurt, gift certificates to Moxie, vouchers for P & K, and more.

All raffle proceeds, of course, go directly to Miss Calhoon and family. But if you are a true and loyal knight who will not hear of prize incentives to do good, there are other options. All kinds of donations are being accepted, like household sundries and clothing -- and checks with lots of zeroes! Please call 326-3133 with any questions.
